Voting Question: Toshiba Satellite L505D WiFi Adapter (Realtek RTL8187SE) stopped working, any way to fix it?

I have the Toshiba Satellite L505D S5965 laptop, and the WiFi Adapter stopped working a few months after I bought it. I tried to fix it by uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, but that didn't work. I ended up giving up and buying a USB WiFi (NETGEAR WG111v3 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter), but it doesn't work very good and I have been having more and more problems with it. Is there any way I can fix the original WiFi Adapter? It was the Realtek RTL8187SE Wireless 802.11b/g 54 Mbps PCIE Network Adapter. There is another Realtek adapter under network adapters in the Device Manager which is called Realtek RTL8102/8103 Family PCI-E FE NIC. Could it be conflicting with the other Realtek adapter? Does anyone know how to fix this? If you need to know anything else, just e-mail me. toddpennell@yahoo.com more

Resolved Question: Setting up a ethernet card or USB to Ethernet adapter in DSL Linux?

I have DSL installed on my old P233 PC and I need to connect it to my wireless router (with adsl modem support) via ethernet cable. The PC has USB ports but no ethernet port. I understand that there are 'usb to ethernet' adapters and also I could use an internal PCI card? What do I need to be aware of so that it will work with DSL linux on my old computer. Will any kind work? Also, I have looked at the page about 'verified wireless cards' on the DSL wiki.. but it is not clear which ones (if any) provide an ethernet port. I already have installed the Netgear MA311 PCI which works wirelessly (but not always) and the signal is very weak.. and this does not have the ethernet port. Thanks for any advice. This is the wiki page about 'verified wireless cards': http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Verified_Wireless_Cards more

Resolved Question: Will a 3v & 5v 32 bit PCI card work in a 5v 32 bit PCI slot?

I want to buy a wireless PCI adapter card for my PC. But it's an old PC (128 processor Pentium MMX with 99 mb of RAM -- it's also running DSL Linux -- if that makes any difference) and it only has the 5v "single gap" 5v 32 bit PCI slot. Will a "2 gap" 32 bit card work in it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_Component_Interconnect My slot is the second down on the left. The card I want to try is the one that fits in the slot below (with the 2 gaps). I'm hoping it will work as it has 'universal' written there. Thanks for any advice.*The diagram I am referring to is down the page a bit.. in the section titled "Conventional hardware specifications" more

Resolved Question: Which wireless dongle should I get?

Hi, My Wireless card has blown and I require a new one. I have a D-link N Router from Virgin which is the DIR-615 model, I would like to use a Dongle instead of a PCI card. I have seen they are cheaper as well. What is the difference between the following (for example), would I get a different performace? I have 10mg broadband. I thought the Linksys WUSB600N looks like a quality make. Posted links to where I saw the spec and decent prices. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Linksys-by-Cisco-Dual-Band-Wireless-N-USB-Adapter_W0QQitemZ300399954930QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_Networking_SM?hash=item45f13b8bf2 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tenda-Wireless-N150-USB-Adapter-MIMO_W0QQitemZ300399937999QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_Networking_SM?hash=item45f13b49cf Thanks SimonResponding to the first answerer, how far is too far to make a difference, 10metres? more

Resolved Question: Wireless PCI adapters that work on Windows 7 64bit!?

I currently have a netgear card (WG311v3) which doesnt have a Windows 7 driver - thank you netgear you morons. Anyways im searching the market (UK ONLY plz dont post newegg or any other USA related online shops) for a wireless PCI that would work on 64bit Windows 7, any one have any idea which ones work? The reason i call them morons is because they cant tell me when/if a driver will be developed for the card so as a consumer how on earth am i supposed to know whether to buy a new card or just wait if a driver is going to be released. Some indication of a developers diary would be useful for me to make my decision, instead they are showing me they are disorganised. The card is still on the market too so you would expect better support if they expect to sell it. I cant seem the find that card on UK websites btw. more

Resolved Question: Computer Hardware question ........?

The PCI wireless network card in my PC has failed and I went to PC world to replace it. They don't even stock these anymore, only USB wireless network devices. Are these just as good in terms of range/signal strength - or should I look to still replace the PCI card adapter? Incidentally, my router is the BT Hub and I connect 3 computers to it. more

Resolved Question: One Last question on PCI wireless adapters... Please just take a peek?

Oki... well basically, i want fast internet on my new desktop. I have read about the different types of pci wireless adapters, the g/b/n thing on the end, but i want to know if it really has that much effect on my internet speed. I will be using my computer for gaming, so i would like a pretty speedy and constant speed, but inbetween my desktop and the router there is a floor which is pretty think ( the router is in the kitchen) Willl i get the same results from the different types of PCI wireless adapter, or should i buy a specific one to get the best results. OR// Is it pretty much just the same, and much cheaper, to buy a usb wireless adapter? ANY help is hugely! appreciated! Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: How can I select between two IP to which my computer is assigned?

My desktop PC is connected to internet through an access point with two wireless LAN (a wireless USB adapter & a wireless PCI adapter) There is just an access point & both adapters use same service provider. My OS is widows XP SP2. Here is my connetion status from USB adapter: IP Address : 192.168.77.100 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway : 192.168.77.1 & from PCI adapter: IP Address : 192.168.77.103 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway : 192.168.77.1 Both IPs are assigned by DHCP. Can I select which IP to surf internet or download? For download file A from first IP & file B from the second "simultaneously" (files A & B are different), is it necessary that download manager support it or not? It's not bad to say that this place uses proxy to connect to internet (for more security!) & also have a download speed limit on each IP. The speed limit, is the reason that I want to use to adapters. more

Resolved Question: wireless pci adapter problems.?

Usually i notice the pages start loading really slow before it stops completely. The device manager shows everything is fine, so does the internet and wireless connection icon at the bottom.Occasionally the internet on my main pc stops working and the pages stop loading even though the little icon on the bottom right of my screen show that everything is working fine. I've narrowed it down to my wireless adapter thing since my two other laptops continue to work fine when my main pc stops connecting. I can usually get it to work again by turning off the pc, physically removing the wireless adapter and putting it back in. When i turn the pc on it usually works fine. This has happened to me four or five times in the past month. I was wondering if this means there is something wrong with the adapter or with the pci connection thing and if there is any way I can do some sort of test to find out why it keeps doing this. more

Resolved Question: Can anyone help me with finding a wireless adapter.?

I desperately need some help on locating a store that sells USB Wireless Adapters that work with WIndows Vista 64-BIT. I bought one today, but after three and a half hours on the phone, Belkin failed to tell me that the drivers were in fact for 32-bit only. So therefore I am looking for a USB Wireless Adapter, supporting Vista 64-Bit, within the region of £15. Best answer gets 10 points. Just wanna solve this lol. It can be a PCI Card, or USB, dont really matter. more

Resolved Question: Wireless pci card works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't ! , could it be interference?

I've got a Realtek RTL8185 54M Wireless LAN Network Adapter, which can go for days without detecting any local networks and then out of the blue it will work for a few days. I've reinstalled the utility and drivers countless times but that doesn't seem to work. Im using windows xp sp3. I've swapped the card between two desktops and it seems to work pretty much randomly on both pc's. Both pc's are in range and other than that the card (when not working) will not pick up other local networks. Is the card just faulty or it's something that can be fixed , because when it works, it works fine. I bought the card new about 4 months ago and for the first two it was working normal. any help is much appreciated. additional info> Driver Provider: Realtek Driver: 5.1107.514.2008 Driver signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher more

Resolved Question: Internet connections with wireless going pear shaped?

I've had a computer online wireless for 3 years. This computer is a Windows XP and had no problems with it. Now recently, I've gotten myself a new pc and tried to hook this new one to the internet in the same way. It's not any further away from the router. The PC is Windows Vista. Installed the same network card as from the old PC (Vista confirms it's compatible), turned it one and it was fine. In fact, I'm typing this out on the new Vista computer. Only that it'll randomly disconnect from the router, and this can become very annoying. I thought it was something to do with the signal from from the router being weak, but it became clear that's not the case as once it was on a "Very Good" signal, wanted IE to go to google homepage and it delayed only to come with "Page cannot be displayed." until suddenly randomly and instantly will go to google. Same with FFox. MSN will d/c and I sometimes get "Little or no connectivity" displayed From testing, the PCI slot & adapter has no probsThanks so far. I've tested that the connection between the router and the PC is not a problem. My laptop has no problems with the internet at the same distance. Either way, I bought an extended aerial that can detect wireless networks down the street! Either way, I'm constantly getting full signal and the problem still occurs. All the drivers are up to date and non of the firewalls are clashing. Everything's clean and all devices are working okay. However, I've yet to find another adapter that's compatible with my vista comp - I got a new Belkin USB adapter and as soon as I installed the drivers I got the blue screen saying it had encountered a serious error and must shut down. So I can only go back to my previous adapter, Broadcom, that came with the comp... and it's really starting to get on my nerves lol.. Thanks again more

Resolved Question: Computer unexpectdly restarting...?

Read: From gaming, to web browsing, my computer unexpededly restarts at least once per day, sometimes 2 or 3 times... It has been happening for about a month or 2. At first I thought it was; Graphics Card - I tried a different AGP card and it still happened. I bought a brand new top end PCI-E card and it still happens. It isn't the graphics card. Power Supply - I bought a brand new power supply, which has mroe than enough power for my computer. It still happens. It is not the PSU. Virus/Spyware - My computer is clean as a whistle, I'm no noob with security. I have no virus or spyware. I also reformatted my computer today, and have hardly been on the internet. Just now the god damn computer unexpectedly restarted!? Other hardware I use: Wireless network adapter, DVD Drive, CD Drive, SATA Harddrive, CPU. I now have NO idea what could be causing it... it definatly isn't a software problem, or gfx, psu problem or wireless network card problem... I need this sorted.I unchecked "Automatically Restart" in the case of an error... ... it didn't fix the problem. more
