Resolved Question: George Lucas: I don't understand what's going on, or if its true but is there any way to stop this?

(sorry about the typos) i am going to paste from a facebook group cause i'm not great at wording things: This year it was announced that George Lucas's disregard for canon has gone to a new atrocious level. First elaborated by renowned Star Wars novel author Karen Traviss (Legacy of the Force, Republic Commando) , a massive retcon has taken place regarding the warrior culture of Mandalorians. Traviss has revealed the following: "When I was finishing 501st in January this year, I was told about a significant continuity change coming up in the Clone Wars cartoon. (As was mentioned and shown in a couple of books that came out in the summer - this is not confidential information of any kind now.) I was told that the Mandalorians were being revamped as long-standing pacifists who'd given up fighting centuries ago and that Mandalore was now a post-apocalyptic wasteland devastated by war. I was told not to refer to (recent) Mandalorian history because of that, as it was obviously at odds with the old continuity in my novels. That's fairly common procedure for any franchise - but unfortunately it wasn't that simple in practice. The two Commando series - and quite a few older books and comics, come to that -were based entirely on that original history, and basic logic meant that the fundamental plot of the series could never have existed if this had been a pacifist society. Neither could any of the characters or their motives have existed, because they were wholly based on a global warrior culture living on a non-nuked Mandalore. I had some discussion in January with the editor about possible ways around the problem, but after that, I heard nothing to indicate that the position would change, so the plan went ahead to wind up my existing storyline in the two books that were already in the pipeline. It was too late for me to rewrite 501st even if the changes hadn't made that pretty well impossible." As Traviss has indicated this retcon stretches deep into Star Wars lore and could affect numerous storylines that have already been published. Please join if you support my cause. OK 'let's go through and point out things that are now False in the Star Wars EU universe. Stat with the main key points. 1-Jango was not Mandalorian at all. Would that make him Death Watch then? 2-Boba has no reason to wear the Mythosaur on his armor as it represents the Mandalorian culture as we know it. EU things tha...t are now untrue. 3-Does this mean Anakin Solo is not dead now that the Vong story was changed? 4-Who won the Vong invasion now? 5-Boba does not build an elite Mando super trooper squad to battle the Vong. 6-Jacen Solo does not become a Sith Lord therefore is not dead. 7-Mara Jade is now also not dead now that the story arc has changed! Any others you can think of that is most likely in the starwars.com Database that are now untrue? Wait, Jango wasn't Mando? But...but...I thought he was from Concord Dawn!! It's been long established....hasn't it?? WAIT----the Vong story was changed?!?!?!? OUTRAGEOUS! Jacen solo......Didn't become a Sith?! OH MY WORD!!! He needs to think... about what he is doing and BACKTRACK!!! Gall! Look at the Legacy comics........if the Vong arc was changed, then Ossus/Wayland could, theoretically, NOT have happened!! And, many Legacy plotlines are now defunct, especially Lady Maladi having died when her laboratory was destroyed, bec...ause there was no laboratory, because there was no vengeful Yuzhan Vong!!! Good gol! George was bought out by cartoon network + Disney bought half the rights to star wars so I was expecting shit. But really I wasn't expecting them to change everything about Mandalorians to change. If it wasn't for the fact that show was geared towards kids they wouldn't have changed it Yeah, disney is now allowed to parody star wars and sell star wars merchandise, go walk around Down Town Disney in Florida same, last time I was in Disney I was okay with the Star Wars show and ride at the Holly Wood Studios, but when I saw a parody of the Ep. IV poster, with Mickey Mouse=Luke Skywalker Minny Mouse=Leia Goofy=Han I hope disney dies..why would George Lucas give them copy rights..?? They bought 'em why would he sell them I think they might've bought part of Lucas Arts since they bought indiana jones Walt Disney is already dead.. ;-) But honestly, why does Disney need the rights of Star Wars??? What does the one have to do with the other? Unfortunately, this bitch-slap is only felt by fans of the whole Star Wars universe. I tred to explain this to a friend that doesn't read any EU at all but I don't know if he understands the ripples this has made. Imagine if whoever is currently in charge of original (non-Abrams) STAR TREK said that from now on the off...icial continuity is that Spock NEVER, EVER served on the ship under Kirk's command and there is nothingcommand and there is nothing you can do about it. EXACTLY!! it would screw up the entire thing, trekkies would commit suicide by the hundreds, they would stop making $$$ and Star Trek would entirely shut down, it would fall apart and cease to exist. Why the paradox?? WHY!??! This is DISGUSTING! soemone should do something!! Come on!! ...Either way you look at it: The mando's are warriors!! or, the mando's are hate mongers!!!! But they're NOT pacifist fer cryin in the mudd!!! Nor is their land 'barren'............good gol! Read Legacy, even up to those times, LotF era and Legacy era, they are fighting and fighting for honor, for the thrill, battling, warriors! Goodness Greivous!! George Lucas is MAD!!!! And you can tell him I said so!!! HE CAN'T DO THIS!!!!!!!!For the love of the Force, STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!WHAT in the galaxy is he THINKING?!?! Does he REALISE that this makes almost a THIRD of the plotlines in the GALAXY defunct?!? Star Wars is CRUBMLING TO PEICES!! FALLING TO PEICES!! Someone has to STOP this madman!!! Oh, goll, I KNEW SW:TCW was gon...na RUIN star wars!!! This has gone FAR ENOUGH!!! Somebody needs to contact this man!! SOMEBODY NEEDS TO CONTACT GEORGE LUCAS!!! SAVE STAR WARS!!! Is there anything we as fans can really do about this? I hate this. I love Mano'ade and this cartoon horrificus cannot continue. What can we do to get George Lucas to Un-screw this. Maybe we can write an open letter to George Lucas himself, telling him what a bullshit that is. I doupt that he is aware off the bad mood among the SW-fans that he caused by his desicion to make the Mandos Pacifists - or he doesn'r care. In both cases he needs to be told that we do not tolerate this total canon-messup. Sighned by enough fans it should have at least a little impact. Does anyone know his address?Nils Baete: I don't look Clone Wars series but i heard there where only Mando pacifists in one episode and it was some community, but they were not the only Mandalorians there where also other REAL Mandalorians. Ok those Mando pacifist had control over Mandalore (the planet) in that episode wich is kinda dumb but except for that and for that fact they call themself "Mandalorians" (wich they are not in my eyes cause they don't follow the "Resol'nare" (Six actions)) it won't have such great implications that all Mandalorians will be changed into pacifists. Or am i wrong? Btw Mandalore can't be a pacifist world forever cause after the movies Boba Fett "lives" on Mandalore being The Mandalore, and it's not pacifist at that time. Btw: somewhere in the CW series showed up a "Mandalorian" with a BLACK lightsaber! WTF a black lightsaber is impossible cause black is NOT a form of light. So these CW series are just crap, they should have made them correctly or not made them at all >:( .Nils Baete, i am hoping this is right!! Are you talking about the 'deathwatch' trilogy? because maybe....just MAYBE........lucas told Traviss not to write about that time period because of this and she had had a book really involved in CW era that couldn't continue, but other things are not affected, such as boba/jango, the Yuzhaan Vong wars, the LotF, etcetera? it could be that the deathwatch trilogy is what was really going on, and mandalorians as we know them are not really going to crumble, as long as they DON'T go back to TOR era, because KotOR and the SW:TOR MMO depend HEAVILY on the Mando's being jingoistic and militant, some would say valiant. But if the paciifism began during an undocumented place in history, perhaps between TOR and CW eras, and ended sometime bbetween CW (deathwatch in particular) and Galactic Civil War eras, or at LEAST the era of the Yuzzhaan Vong wars, then it should still be okay. maybe it won't screw up established plotlines too bad??I HOPE this is the one we're talking about!! But serilously, EVERYONE tell EVERYONE YOU KNOW to come join this page, and make sure they DO IT, and we could create a petition!! I like Angelika Mühlnikel's idea to create 'open letter to George Lucas himself' and get it to him if that's possible. Get him to get back the rights to his own legacy for cryin' out loud, that would help a lot!! he's just trying to get more kid viewers is what it is, people who've only ever heard of Anakin or Boba because of the SW:TCW show and haven't even seen the movies, even the original trilogy fer cryin out loud!!, and think Count Dooku is the most powerful Sith ever (because they've never heard of Exar Kun).We REALLY need to do a petition, and i don't know how, but if somebody can set one up, I will do WHATEVER it takes to reverse this spiral!!!!!! PLEASE! SOMEBODY, DO SOMETHING!!! ................in conclusion, as you can see, this is very much confusing me and I am devastated by this if it is as far reaching as some say, i am hoping it is not true some of the comments are mine. (ps please excuse the profanity i did not write it i just pasted it its not mine) this is from a facebook group protesting the change, is there anything fans can do about it? does anyone have accurate information on the situation at all?? please somebody help me sort this out!! it's bad enough already with Legacy comics ending prematurely and whatnot, but now THIS?? this could potentially destroy the whole star wars canon and universe! i need some answers here :'( more

Resolved Question: Do you think I'm a loser?

I'm 18 and a senior in High School. I'm graduating in a few weeks. And I start working in a few days. I watch anime and I play video games. I like game companies such as Nintendo and Square Enix. I play The Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, and more games. I watch animes such as Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, Death Note, Inuyasha, Eureka Seven, Code Geass, Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist Brother Hood, .Hack//SIGN, KIBA, The Tower of Druaga, Tenchi Muyo!, Elfen Lied, One Piece, and more. And I collect anime, video games, and merchandise. I cosplay and go to anime conventions. I like to collect Keyblades. I'm going to buy a replica of The Master Sword and Hylian Sheild from Zelda. I watch G4 shows. I watch Attack of the Show and X-Play every day. I watch Ninja Warrior, etc. I like computers and electronics. I like Star Wars. I collect action figures of anime and games. etc. So what do you think? Am I a loser? People tell me anime and video games are gay. And it pisses me off. They call me a loser, etc And I don't have a girlfriend. The only reason I don't have a girlfriend is because I'm not ready for a relationship yet. And they don't know that. I don't have any friends to hang with also. I'm home schooled but I'm graduating in a few weeks.Life is really hard on me. I was a School Out cast. And people would make fun of me because I'm different. So it's tough. more

Resolved Question: Do you agree with my theory plus BQ?

I was thinking competition is better for the market and for the fans.Or the formula says and the same most hold true for wrestling too.I was thinking if WWE and TNA were to "go to war" that this would boost revenue, merchandising and empirically better matches as one brand tried to trump the other. So my theory is the BEST thing right now for the fans is a war,in doing so it would breath new life into wrestling.STAR if you agree. Voting Question: Why do people automatically assume this about certain kinds of people?

Why do people immediately assume the following people have no friends, no girlfriends and/or live in their mothers' basements? *Those who are die-hard fans of a certain something or somebody that their house or room is entirely decorated with their merchandise *Those who are fans of sci-fi, comics, video games and anime *Those who are fans of Star Trek and/or Star Wars *Those who are really into science, technology, computers, chemistry, etc. *Those who have a amazing, shocking or bizarre talent *Those who enjoy doing silly, crazy and (likely) dangerous stunts And why do people immediately ask them about their social and/or love lives as soon as they find out that they're those kinds of people? I don't understand this. Also, I've been wanting to ask this question for many, many years now but I could never think of the right way to ask it. Thanks in advance for any help. more

Resolved Question: Are "Twilight" fans not that much different from Trekkies & fans of other movie/TV/comic book cult-followings?

Given the recent attention in the media on the current popularity of the Twilight saga books and movie franchise, would you agree that diehard fans of Twilight (whom are sometimes referred to as "Twi-hards") aren't really that much different from Trekkies (fans of Star Trek) or those who are fanatical about Star Wars, comic books, anime, etc.? Truthfully, I have no interest in Twilight whatsoever. However, as a comic book geek and a bit of a Trek fan myself, it's kind of cool to note the striking similarities and parallels between Twilight fans and fans of other movies/TV shows/comic books with massive and popular cult followings. It's also interesting to see all of the forms of Twilight mass merchandise being produced (e.g. action figures, board games, USB memory sticks). You can definitely tell they're taking a cue from the types of merchandise that have been produced for Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. over the years.potterhead#1: Hey, there's nothing wrong with behaving in a frenzied manner if you're passionate about Twilight and the stars in the movie. I mean, have you ever seen the way comic book, Star Wars or anime fans behave at a convention??? lol more

Resolved Question: Star Wars in Concert info.?

As an avid and die hard Star Wars fanatic, I thankfully and excitedly scored tickets to attend the Star Wars In Concert event thats been sweeping the world off their feet. I had purchased the "Hot Seat" package which included premium seating, early admission to the arts and crafts exhibit, and a free merchandise item. I'll be attending the November 17th concert in Wilkes-Barre PA, but before the actual event is, I had a few questions for those who may know the answer, or have already experienced this so called "phenomenon". First off, how was the concert? was it really all it was hyped up to be? With my center floor 1st row seats, will they be excellent seats? or will the cause me to strain my neck looking up at the screen? will i have a good view? or will the orchestra be in the way of the screen? Concerning the exhibit, how was this? was there too much to be able to see? I got the early admission deal, but how much earlier will i be allowed in than the general public if the show starts at 7:30? I live about an hour away, and would love to be there as soon as i can be allowed in, so i can see it all. If there's any other comments, pointers, tips, etc. that you have for me, please list them for me. thank you for all the help and its greatly appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Was Jango Fett from Star Wars a villain?

Jango Fett and his "son", Boba Fett (actually a natural grown up clone, though I think of him more of a son) are the two most famous bounty hunters in the Star Wars universe. However, I have discovered that many of the merchandise that have been developed to them (including Star Wars official tags) have them as "Villains". I found this a little confusing. I don't think them as villains per se, because they were just bounty hunters, so they were doing their job. In fact, in the Star Wars Bounty Hunter game, Jango hunts many criminals (of course is for the money, but still) so I want you to think about it. What do you think about? more

Resolved Question: PROOF THAT THE NBA IN FIXED....Tim Donaghy rats out...READ MORE ...what do you guys think?

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/2008/06/10/2008-06-10_exreferee_tim_donaghy_blows_whistle_on_n.html Tuesday, June 10th 2008, 4:10 PM Tim Donaghy, who pleaded guilty to charges of betting on games he officiated, is now airing NBA's dirty laundry. Murphy/Getty Tim Donaghy, who pleaded guilty to charges of betting on games he officiated, is now airing NBA's dirty laundry. Ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy told the feds two refs fixed the outcome of one playoff series - and that officials were told not to eject star players from games for fear of hurting ticket sales. The bombshell allegations are contained in a court document filed Tuesday by Donaghy's lawyer. It describes the “inner workings" of the NBA in which top league executives used referees to manipulate games. Donaghy, who pleaded guilty in Brooklyn Federal Court to charges of betting on games he officiated, told FBI agents “league officials would tell referees that they should withhold calling technical fouls on certain star players because doing so hurt ticket sales and television ratings," the document said. Donaghy claims he was told that two refs who were “company men” acting in the interest of the NBA conspired to extend a playoff series in 2002 to a seventh game. The referees allegedly ignored flagrant fouls committed by the team that needed to win. They also reportedly called "made-up fouls" against the other team which led to the ejection of two of their players. The team favored by the refs won that night and the next game to win the series. The document does not name the teams. The Nets were in that playoff series, losing the championship finals to the Los Angeles Lakers. Donaghy also claimed a supervising referee told refs that an unidentified NBA executive did not want them to call technical fouls on star players or boot them from the game. Donaghy told feds the league reprimanded a referee who disobeyed that edict in January 2000 and ejected an unnamed star player from a game in the first quarter. Lawyer John Lauro filed the four-page letter to Federal Judge Carol Amon because none of the information was included in the government’s letter to the judge seeking leniency for Donaghy when he is sentenced next month. Lauro has gone to war against Brooklyn federal prosecutors for offering plea deals to Donaghy's betting accomplices that give them less time than the disgraced ref, despite his extensive cooperation. Donaghy claims referees have accepted autographs, free merchandise and meals from team coaches and managers. He told probers one referee used a team's practice facility to exercise and another played tennis with an NBA coach. "These activities were against NBA rules, indeed, such inappropriate relationships could influence the outcome of games," Lauro wrote. Lauro said he withheld the names of the teams, referees and league officials because the feds may still investigate the allegations.there's another article on ESPN.com check this out http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3436401 by the way, everyone star this question more

Resolved Question: Fans of Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and others!???

I'm doing an article hard core fans of movies such as the ones mentioned above. When I mean hard core, I'm talking about the dressing up for midnight premieres of movies, and the collecting all of the merchandise and that kind of thing. Why do people do that with certain movies (such as Star Wars rather than say... E.T. or something) and why isn't it just enough to watch and enjoy the movie? What certain qualities do the movies mentioned above have that make people like them so much that it becomes an obsession? Thank you for all of your answers, you'd really be helping me out a lot! more

Resolved Question: Star Wars Vintage Figures?

So let me get this straight, in the 1980's figures came out that featured every character ever created in the Star Wars universe? I've been a hardcore Star Wars fan ever since I saw the movies when i was like five and I've been wanting to collect Star wars figures, but I wanna collect the real deal. So the "Vintage Mint condition Star Wars figure!!!" banners I see on Ebay mean that these are the original figures created after the movie that were the first Star Wars merchandise ever? I know I just asked the same question 6 times and sorry; just want to make sure I get the whole "original figure collector" thing. more

Resolved Question: Everybody, help!?

Where can I find cheap Star Wars merchandise online? Everywhere I've looked so far has dumb stuff, or else it's too epensive. I'm looking to remodel my room in Star Wars theme. (My wife got to theme the bathroom. She picked ducks.) Also, anyone know of a good diet program out there that's cheap also? I have a newborn and she's like a vaccume whenit comes to money. :) Thanx everyone more

Resolved Question: Marvel Civil War Flick?

Ok...We All Know The Marvel Empire Is Worth Millions...No...Billions Of Dollars So We Know They Can Afford To Take All Their Mega-Movie Stars From Spider Man's Tobey Maguire To X-Men's Hugh Jackman And Halle Berry To Fantastic Four's Jessica Alba And Put Them In One Ultimate Super-Hero Flick With The Ultimate (And Possibly Most Expensive) Cast Ever And Put Them In The Middle Of Marvel's Best Story Line Yet Of Course The Civil War. Who Wouldn't Wanna See The Tragic Death Of Captain American Portrayed In A Movie Along With Their Other Stars. And I Know This Movie Would Cost Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars To Produce But Think Of The Amount Of Money The Movie Would Gross In Ticket Sales Alone...Then Imagine The Amount Of Merchandise Would Be Sold And How Well The DVD Would Sale...And For The Critics I Know My Idea Is VERY Un-Realistic But Hey Im Only 13 Let Me Dream...PLEASE Tell Me What You Think About My Idea. more

Resolved Question: How does one make a "hologram" similar to Sega's "Time Traveler" arcade game?

It's not a real hologram, but it is often misconceived as such. It is technically a stereogram and an optical illusion with mirrors. I want to find out how to do this for an animation project I have coming up next year. This is not a hologram that one would make with a laser pointer and shiny metallic film, as seen on Visa cards or official NFL merchandise, but something entirely different, closer to the "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi" scene from Star Wars. I know it's possible as I've seen it with my own eyes, and I know I can do it, because the Sega game was in arcades ten years ago, and you people are ingenious enough to come up with a solution. Can't wait to hear from you guys, thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: Who's your favorite entrepreneur?

What entrepreneur do you admire most, whether they are famous or not? I don't have a single favorite but heres some: Richard Branson, virgin is just a great company and brand. Donald Trump, because he's pretty funny and always promotes himself. George Lucas, because of how he marketed star wars so well with merchandising. Some older entrepreneurs, John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnigie. more
