Open Question: can scratches on a ps2 disc cause audio problems in the game?
I have a ps2 game, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and it is experiencing problems with the audio. And some other odd stuff as well... First, whenever I enter a space battlefield (hanger area or not) the music and sound effects turn off. Second, while in Tantive IV the music glitches into an ongoing verse of annoying music. Thirdly, one time I entered space and flew around my capital ship for about 10 minutes, but nobody from the other team ever came out of their capital ship. I don't need to know how to fix scratches, I know that already. If any of you know if scratches cause this, let me know. Thanks.

moreResolved Question: Whats the best website to find tips/pictures for creating a star wars scene?
Not sure how to ask this question, but I'm planning on making an enclosed box around a gaming chair that looks on the inside like a space ship cockpit from one of the star wars movies. Its not going to need to be sturdy so I'll probably just make it out of cardboard. So I'm looking for the best way to get pictures of ship interiors/buttons/star wars symbols/etc. Is there any site dedicated to something in that ballpark?
moreResolved Question: Songs about outer space?
I need a list of songs that have to do with outer space, the stars, the galaxy, rocket ships or anything of the source that is in that theme. Or anything that has to do with Star Wars/Clone Wars would really help too. Anything that relates to those categories. Also it needs to be kid friendly so no explict lyrics or something like that.
If you know songs that fit please tell me, I need this for work :)
Thanks! Also anything relevant to the modern day would help too, since kids probably won't know about songs from the 70s or something!

moreResolved Question: Escaping Earths gravity with a rail gun like device?
I have been tossing around some ideas in my head for a Sci-fi novel, I love space travel but I also love Hard Sci-fi and I know how unrealistic true star-trek style space travel is. (I never really liked Star Trek myself) And I think of star wars as more of a Science Fantasy genre (Light sabers are the coolest things ever, but seriously?)
Anyway, I have been kicking around some ideas in my head for how the "world" of my story is going to work. I want it to be as realistic as possible, but at the same time be able to actually have space travel in it in a believable yet still fun way.
I don't want to use light speed and Humanity is still in the solar system, We would be able to reach as far as Pluto.
Im not a real scientist but I think I know more then the average person about space (I have always been a space case, even when I was a kid, I LOVE space) and as far as my knowledge goes one of the biggest hurdles to space travel is the astonishing amount of fuel needed to escape earths gravity, beacuse if you land on another world with earth like gravity, you would need to double that amount to get back again.
So I began to think of a rail gun kind of system, a "space port" would consist of large towers of super powerful electromagnetic rings. Ships, being made of metal, would be loaded onto a dock at the bottom of the rings, lifting off they would fly though the rings with an opposite magnetic charge though the ship pushing them faster and faster up and shooting them up into space by kicking into the rockets fuel after the launch
In space itself very little fuel is needed beacuse nothing has any weight.
I don't know how realistic that is, but it would help so much beacuse it cuts down on the fuel hurdle. The electricity for the rails would be powered by nuclear reactors (with ships taking Nuclear waste from the reactors to be thrown onto...i don't know, Mercury, beacuse why not...)I was thinking a few hundred years, society collapsed once but was rebuilt by the best and brightest who went underground.
(In the back story the Nuclear Apocalypse or some such nonsense happened and humanity used the dooms day scenario often talked about in movies about taking the best and brightest underground)
With humanity weeded down to a fraction of its former population, smartest minds on earth, they were able to lead those left into a new world with so few people and 100's of years to regrow resources went from scarce to plentiful, a new golden age
fast forward another couple 100 years, and here we are!
moreResolved Question: If one could travel at 1.5 C.....?
Thought experiment:
Han Solo, in the first Star Wars movie, mentions that the course of the Millenium Falcon must be plotted, or the ship could pass right through a star or planet, and that would instantly obliterate the ship. However, if one were traveling at 1.5 C (which is supposedly the top speed for the Falcon) would the force of the ship actually come into contact with planets or stars? Would it be unnecessary to plot the course of the ship? Given the speed, would the force of the mass that comprises the ship be spread across multiple dimensions of space-time in such a way that its force would be nullified and canceled out? Therefore, would it pass through planets and stars like a ghost, avoiding impacts? Does traveling at warp speed nullify the presence of mass and force?
Let's assume that the Falcon does not travel back in time by going at 1.5 C. Please concentrate on the movement of the Falcon, and its relationship to planets and stars.Joel: hahaha. I think you would want to test the feasibility of passing through solid objects with faster than light craft using remote controlled models first.
moreResolved Question: Why is it that the ships in the Star Wars prequels look more modern than those in the originals?
Surely if the new Star Wars movies were set BEFORE the old ones, the spaceships would look more modern or more or less the same as the ones in the prequels? I mean if you look at the Falcon or the Destroyers and Tie Fighters in the originals..they look sorta cheap and more "space-shippy" to our standards. The ships in the new ones look more exotic and futuristic.
I don't get it. Doesn't make sense.

moreVoting Question: Old sci-fi anime/manga?
Tough one alert! I'm trying to find a manga film, from the 80's i think (could even be older)
Here goes, a family on a large space craft, land on an alien world (can't remember why, maybe for supplies or repairs) They have a young son who for some reason ends up separated. The whole movie is this kid trying to survive the hostile planet while his family search for him. The boy befriends a weird biped creature a bit like a ton ton from star wars who lets him ride on it's back. The boy accidentally leads the poor creature in true manga style to it's death in a cave of tentacles.
At the end of the movie the boy finds an old man with a ship. The old man doesn't want to hang around (grumpy old sod) so the boy agrees to leave the planet with him. He never sees his family again.
If anyone knows the name of this movie it would be great. I've been wondering for years!Sorry guys but best answer goes to me.
If anyone else has wondered what this movie was, here it is:
"Les Maîtres du temps/the time masters"
it's a french animation, not japanese which was a suprise and the designs were all done by Moebius (the guy who designed on Fifth Element)
IMDB is a powerfull tool!

moreVoting Question: What is the name of this science fiction movie/ tv show?
Ok I saw this science fiction movie ( or possibly tv show but it felt more like a movie) years ago when I was a kid and out of all the ones I can't remember this one bugs me the most. The story is that a bunch of cadets in some kind of space fleet are forced to enter an interplanetary war when it turns out they they are the only ones with information that one of the worlds that their fleet is supposed to protect is going to be attacked. The cadets have to act or the bad guys will destroy the planet or at least the people on it. They have no supervision because their captain was killed. Their vessel/ space ship is damaged and stranded on a planet and must be repaired before they can warn anybody. One of the cadets thinks that going to warn the planet is suicidal and tries to take over their ship by force, even if it means killing some of the group to do it. He is stopped and the group has to hold a trial to decide what to do with him. They all vote that he is guilty of murder and mutiny by putting black balls into a box (?) The cadet hangs himself in his quarters rather than letting them reluctantly execute him for his crimes. When the others repair the ship they go to the planet to save it and arrive just in time to do a crazy maneuver that somehow stops the other ships from firing on the planet but leaves them dead in the water to be fired upon. They beg for their lives to no avail but just when all seems lost the fleet arrives and saves them. The end. I have put all the detail I remember into this in the hopes that someone will recognize this and relieve years of wondering. This is definitely not Star Wars and I am pretty sure it wasn't Star Trek. Does any one know what this was called and where i can find it online?
moreResolved Question: How's my book idea sound?
I'm going to start writing a book soon, and I want to know what everyone thinks about the plot. It tells two stories that tie together. In the first story, humans have, in the year 2070, found 100% proof of an intelligent alien life form in a somewhat nearby star system. It will take a long time, like 5,000 years long, but we want to make contact. The plan is to create a very large ship that can support generations of life with an artificial environment. By this time we've managed to get an almost infinite energy source, so that's not a problem. Unfortunately, this gathers a lot of bad press, and multiple terrorist groups form in attempts to stop it. The stories protagonist is a scientist who is defending the project.
The second story is of someone on that ship, just 3 years away from reaching the star system. In the many years this ships been in space it's become almost it's own planet, with multiple factions and even it's own wars. Just 3 years away from it's ultimate destination though, a man has sparked a rebellion, and his faction is trying to destroy the ship before it reaches it's destination. The protagonist is a close friend to the captain who's fighting the rebellion.
Obviously there's a lot to added, and I'm not going to overlook scientific realism, but that's the basis of the story. Tell me what you think! Some stuff I forgot to add.
To answer your question Nick, it's mostly a matter of us being ecstatic about the idea of actually contacting aliens. Our planet is in a much more stable condition at the time and is fairly peaceful, so a lot more energy is devoted to space travel. The planet they've observed is also habitable by humans, so that's another motive. They could send a transmission, but what's the fun in that?
I still have a lot of brainstorming to do, this is just the basis. Some stuff I forgot to add.

moreVoting Question: Looking for the name of an old school spaceship PC video game!?
The game is from the lat 80s or early 90s, I'm not entirely sure. The setting was in space (2D) on your ship where you would fly to coordinates to meet other ships to kill them or talk to them. The backdrop was the black universe with stars. I can't remember a whole lot other than you would run out of a fuel sometimes and that eventually you got a hyperdrive type thing that would let you go really fast.
The only other thing I remember is that your ship always stayed in the middle of the screen, you just would aim it and fly it in the 2D space. And if i remember correctly the ship looked a little like the star wars rebel alliance symbol. hah! Thanks for any help
moreVoting Question: Can Some one help me find the Name of this Arcade game?
I remember playing it at Chuck E. Cheese once..it was a 3D space game that simulated flight though space, you were basically a gunner pilot.(the ship was an arwing like starfox)..You would sit down and use a joystick to play..And there was a boss at the end of each level.. when the game starts out, you choose a ship to use, and then you travel through space, sort of like in star wars, then at the end of that level there is this huge ship in front of you shooting at you and there is a planet in the back round, and you have to shoot the guns on the ship and whatnot..... Then the second level you fight like this Dragon that comes out of lava, the Third has this like egyptian Pharoah looking boss thats just his face, the fourth has like a frog or reptillian lizard creature that jumps around (it looks like Blanca from Street Fighter), and the fifth level is Called The Speed Demon.. I forgot the name, it was an arcade cockpit rail shooting 3rd person space flight simulator, was a sit down and play game with joystick control... Someone please tell me if they know what this game is...
moreResolved Question: What are some good games for kids on PS3?
We have Lego Batman & Lego Indiana Jones; Ghostbusters, Lego Star Wars, Sonic & Madagascar. Are there any games like the old Asteroids or other space ship games where you are just firing on other ships? It's for kids, aged 6 to 9 years old so blood & guts fighting isn't appropriate.
moreResolved Question: What are these two movies I'm thinking of?
There's two movies I'm thinking of but I can't remember what they are.
First Movie: Set in the future, maybe like 2020 or something, and an alien race controls Earth. Humans are slaves and there's this family, it's I think a kid and his father and/or grandfather and they find or create this like mech thing, and the aliens (who are humanoid - they seem to remind me a lot of the Combine from HL) have mechs also and the kid and his father/grandfather fight the alien mechs. I don't remember much, although I think the kid's mech had like an armored car that detached from it, or the entire mech could convert to a wheeled vehicle or something...and also I think the human mech was painted white. Also the very beginning of the movie I think it shows a team or Special Forces landing amphibiously on an island somewhere and they encounter an alien mech that looks like a robot dinosaur and it shoots flames from its mouth. I know it sounds like a pretty cheesy movie but I remember watching it a long time ago.
Second movie: I only remember what I believe was the very beginning of this movie. In the very beginning, there is some sort of space battle going on above Earth, or in our solar system (possibly near the Sun). Some kind of portal or device is being built near the Sun I think, or it's a space station, I don't know. Anyways, there's space fighters defending the station from hostile fighters that were either human or alien. One of the good guys is narrating the battle I think (and their ships look kind of funky, like B-wings from Star Wars) and the good guy narrating turns out to be like the father of the main character of the movie. I think he maybe dies in the battle or something. And the Sun is somehow significant in the battle.
Any idea what either of these movies are?Actually I think the first movie was Robo Warriors.
moreResolved Question: Can I do this legally? Has this already been done before? If not, should I do it?
Hello there,
The above questions are concerning a new story idea I had that I decided to call ~ The Tucker Resurrection. Since I hated the ending of Star Trek: Enterprise, I've made a new one: the story I'm working on. The book is set in the very next day after the Federation is signed and Captain Jonathan Archer gives his big fancy speech. But enough introductions; let the story begin! By the way, I'll be greatful for any advice and tips you're able to give. Thanks a ton in advance!
THE TUCKER RESURRECTION
The original Enterprise team and the ship, including the army personnel who joined the crew in the Xindi War, are called back to the front lines when Commander Charles Tucker returns from the dead with alarming news: the Guardians who previously controlled the Xindi and nearly destroyed Planet Earth are back. This time, they're far more powerful than ever and bent on revenge.
However, they won't stop at just Earth. Even more unsettling is the claim that Commander Tucker, previously the chief engineer of Enterprise, was granted the powers to destroy the Guardians for once and for all. The Enterprise team are granted permission to travel to Nors Din (using the name for now), the Guardians new headquarters, and are joined by the Vulcans, Andoreans, and Telorites.
The journey gets tough though when they enter Romulan space and have to deal with a brand new threat, the likes of which has never even been dreamed of by anyone. The connection between the Romulans and the Guardians soon becomes clear. Enterprise and their allies discover that the Guardians have found a new race of aliens in the far reaches of the universe and have convinced them to become allies and help them in their new war effort.
If that isn't trouble enough, seeds of disunity and rebellion are being sowed largely due to Commander Tucker's inhumane powers seemingly of magic. Will he be able to steel himself against the prejudice and cruel gossip? In addition, will he be able to subdue his rekindled love for T'pol who does not return his feelings anymore? Or will he snap under the preasure of the two obstacles plus the extra shifts and myriad of attacks from Romulans, Guardians, and others?
The fate of the universe--as you will find out in due time--depends upon the answer.
moreResolved Question: I disagree with Stephen Hawking about the nature of aliens, my thoughts enclosed, what do you think?
--I do it through deduction and logic:
He is playing a trick (stephen), I think aliens, if they are a couple million years ahead of us, would have likely powered their civilization with all the energy they could ever want from fusion or sun(s) (one kilometer band around the earth of solar energy for one year, would be the equivalent of all the energy content in our oil reserves...thats our sun, can you figure out how much energy we could extract from an O star? Yea, thats right), extracted all the ore they could want from mining asteroids...and would likely have mapped and surveyed the entire galaxy (its only 100,000 light years accross)...and although that sounds big, think of it in terms of millions of years...its nothing...they likely mapped this planet as one suitable for life long ago, and if they would invade, they would likely invade one where the organisms on the planet were in the dinosaur era...By Hawking's own deduction, life might be average, if not plentiful, given the simple math and probability of 200 billion stars in our galaxy.....I think they know we are here, and since they have gone through a technological singularity ages ago, are likely huge brains that control various bodies, they may not even be from one dimention....They could very likely, if millions of years more advanced than us, use 'synth' humans to 'vacation' on our planet, without having to pillage and rape our resources...So one of them could be in its study, seeing other's thoughts and learning, its machines being powered by tiny fusion reactors on a ship and ore being extracted for various worlds through robots, and then go into a 'neural net' like avatar and control a human body and have a nice vacation in aruba...
I think they probably know us way better than we know us, since they could simulate our brains on computers and know our in depth psychology better than we understand it.
I think stphen hawking has reached this same conclusion, and he likely made the statement he made in order to give a meta-message to them: Hey alien buddy, mind helping us a little? I think stephen thinks their sneaky for not anouncing themselves, and wants them to help us out with the energy and resource problems, which he thinks are impending, and could lead to hardship on our planet..And the aliens, might not want to get involved--kind of the same reason we might not want to get involved in a dispute between two tribes in angola.....They do not want to get in a relationship with a primitive race, especially with one where the power is greatly tilted toward them...we are not their technological equals, and they will get into compromising and strange situations if they announce themselves to a race such as the human one. They have likely already calculated it.
It sounds crazy, but its perfectly logical. Its either that, or intelligent life blows itself up...because just imagine us, in say, 5 million years...yea, I know crazy right? We would have very likely gone through many periods of civil strife and war, but eventually, either through bio-engineering or whatever, would have reached a stasis stage (if we survive, thats the premise for this whole thought experiment)...and there is no physical law or reason why we could not get all of our energy from fusion or the sun, and all of our ore from asteroids...we have seen what we can do with our CURRENT UNDERSTANDING: launch loop, space elevator anyone?
we can currently build a ship that can reach 95% of the speed of light...solar sails?
If we lasted 5 million years brother, we would have mapped the ENTIRE galaxy...its only 100,000 light years accross? we would have travelled it many many times and made a mental note --stored in a data bank which planets were fostering life....Im sure these aliens would have most likely seen our planet in the cretatious period! There is no need for them to invade! There are 100 billion stars in our galaxy! There are probably more habitable planets with stupid life on it than with 'slightly intelligent natives' on it! They have all the energy (stars) and ore (asteroids) and untouched biospheres (planets with stupid wildlife) they could ever wnat! And even if they do not, why would they invade NOW, and not a million years ago, when we were not here!
No, I think they know very well we are here...why have we not heard anything? Well, let me put it this way, for most of human history...sorry, planetary history, we never used 'radio waves'...and in the future, we are very unlikely to use them either, just look at how fast our transition from analogue to digital took place in a decade in the US.....We will most likely be communicating with fiber optic/nanotech later in the 21st and thereafter....radio waves will be used less and less, until we use none...Its a fact, talk to any engineer who knows where communications are going..
So really, we are really looking for a 200 year window, where some civcivilization might be going through the same exact phase that we are going...how stupid is that! the universe is 15 billion years old!!!!
That is why we have not heard anything. Everything we are looking at is either prehistoric, or incredibly advanced, what are the chances we are going to get a civ at our specific 200 year window of development... Why have they not contacted?
I presume because they don't want to interfere (1) if they are really advanced as the type of civilization I suggested prior, and are waiting for some sort of opportune moment, and simply see us as a tourist destination---or they had a stephen hawking that told them what our stephen hawking is telling us...and stopped signaling thousands, millions of years ago, once they started to get cautious and thereafter advanced to greater technology...or, well, they blew themselves up.
Those are the only options to me, in a universe that is billions of years old, and a galaxy that is relatively, just 100,000 liglight years across.
I am sure a couple dozen races already know about us, and they either are just enjoying our planets resources by sneaking around like one of us, having a blast in aruba...or they are not interfering and only observing...No, I don't think they 'visit' earth in dish like ships and abduct people...they could very well just have gotten a sample of our blood, and either replicated it in a simulation, in something that could only be understood by us as a computer, or cloned the specimen without abduction....Furthermore, I think its a given they would have at least used an invisibility cloak..
we recently built an invisibility cloak for visible light! Sure, not fully developed...but in a 1000 years? are you F kidding me? We have a stealth bomber...just imagine what the hell we will be imagining thousands of years from now, not to mention a couple hundred or 50 years into the future....We could have very well cloaked a huge ship....they could very possibly be right ababove us...and we would never, ever know it...
Just hope they don't have a magnifying glass.your thoughts on this whole debacle.Efran..
yes, but that precludes a higher evolutionary stage we may not have accounted for....
We have many neural prescepts that are quite animalistic and barbaric. And although useful for survival on lesser stages, such as when we were cavemen, these same instincts are quite detrimental when we are talking about nuclear weapons.
I think genetic engineering and a technological/intelligence singularity, could very well create a race where any of these undesirable attributes to society and the individual would be wiped out, and due to the artificial intelligence explosion, could be harnessed to spread thousands of robots to harvest not only ore from asteroids, but to build any complex an alien brain might imagine...
Everything could be powered by either the sun (look at space based solar power) or fusion....everything else would be a learning experience ....acheiving nirvana.
I think this evolutionary track of alien..would most likely have satisfiedevery biological need, except curiosity...So I think conquering a planet would be anathema (we are talking about a civilization just 5 million years into the future of our current time....insignifcant, 15 billion years is the age of the universe) to a culture that could very well experience the earth indirectly through avatar sort of technology, the funcitonal equivalent if they had conquered it and experienced it themselves...
and won't need to bother on energy or ore, because both of these are in plentiful supply both in stars and in asteroids...
So I think stephen hawking is basically smoking crack.Gent...if that is the case, I am sure they would prefer dinosaurs, who are likely somewhere in another solar system, who are much bigger and much tastier....?????
not to mention cows...I mean, Ive heard humans arn't that tasty, just ask sharks. I just don't understand his logic...Aliens would havce no interest in eating us...I guess we are all projecting our own evaluations of nature and the world...
They are just reflections...But I highly doubt, that an advanced alien race, would see it fit to eat us, when there are plenty of planets with dinosaur mcdonalds to go to...Not to mention they would have stars, fusions, asteroids for ore, and the like to satsify their 'spaceships' as hawking says..
I mean in his documentary, he says that they may even travel to our planet via wormhole by harnessing the powr of a star...to....conquer us? WHY? why not use that energy to create matter out of energy and build up their spaceships?seems kind of absurd to me they would A...if only need parts for their ships take it from a remote blue planet rather than asteroids or other planets without a civilization or B Need to conquer our planet for energy when they have the sun, or to have a nice little blue island for themselves, when there are plenty of other planets surely in dinosaur era, not to mention we were a couple million years ago...so why not conquer and invade then...Just doesn't make sense to me.
there is either no intelligent life out there, or they are likely obersving us this instance as we speak.

For instance, if you were traveling close to the speed of light and on an space ship, what would it look like if you were seeing it through the view of the cockpit or through a window. Would it look like Star Wars with the hyperspeed or would you be able to see fast stars and comets whizzing by? What would the view look like?
moreVoting Question: Looking for a games title-Space Game.?
It was made in around 2000. The gameplay was a lot like Star Wars Empire At War. The whole point of the game was to colonize planets and to either make alliances or defeat other empires. Throughout the game you would be given the ability to help other planets or spacecraft depending upon what race you chose to play as. You also had to upgrade and research different ships and structures, as well as keep moral up on your planets or they would rebel.Xairtis-If the game was a turn based game, then that was not it.
moreResolved Question: Will human die out before space colonization beyond earth realm can begin?
Will human die out before space colonization beyond earth realm can begin?
Is it safe to say humanity biggest threat is human behavior? I'm talking about hate, jealousy, fear, greed, and stupidity. These traits of humanity are what makes government works and society function. It inspire us to create technology to win wars and brutally defeat our enemies. People say that the space program have created high tech technology we used today, but I beg to differ. All our technology are a result of past war that we have fought OR will fight. The right brothers may have created a winged lift vehicle, but it wasn't any practical use until the military weaponized it to spy and then bomb our enemies. Rockets were invented long before world war 2, yet it was the German war machine that made people realized it's potential. Radar was developed by various nations, not just Briton, for military application. The atom bomb was just a theory until we realized the military potential to destroy entire cities. We are creating a technology death spiral that will one day cause our own demise.
I keep hearing about comets or asteroids will one day hit earth, or global warming will change the climate dramatically that earth will be inhabitable. Even Steven Hawkings thinks that Alien can one day harm humanity. There's a probability that all that might happen, but the most likely threat to humanity is our own self destructing behavior resulting in a strong division within the world. Humanity is tribalistic, we divide ourselves into groups called race, nationality, ethnicities, and among other things such as gender, politics, religion, and family. When we are not at war with one or more type of groups, we are at war with other single individual, even with our own selves.
The weaponization of space by country such as America, Russia, China, and other nations that has the ability to send satellite into space has happened. Human started with weaponization of the ground as early as the cave man. Than we weaponized the sea with ships. Then we weaponized the air with plane. Anyone with a military background would know that the high ground will always provide the best advantages. Space would only be the next logical step. Treaties that bans weapons into space won't stop nation from developing weapons for space. America, Russia, and China has already test fire missile to hit their own satellite in space successfully, but neither admits any military intention. Chinese and Russian space program can be seen as a threat to America and other nations security and vise versa. Every nations military mentality is to prepare for war, even during time of stability. Nuclear weapons is a very powerful weapon to destroy an entire region in the world. Currently it's more of a political weapon because of the Mutual Assure Destruction that will result from such use of weapon. If a Star War type program is implemented, even as a strictly defensive system, other nation will have to follow suit because the nation with a defense against nuclear weapons has the advantage and the will to use them.
So to conclude this, my questions are:
1) Are we as human heading towards a technological death spiral that can only end in doomed?
2) Is it naive to say space will never be used as a battlefield?
3) Is it logical to say that all intellectual beings beyond earth have these same human trait of motivations to create advance technology? It's seems all living organism are naturally violent in a way that resulted in a food chain, even bacteria and virus feed off other living cells. This behavior is a mechanism for all organism to survive. Without this mechanism, any living organism would have died long ago. Therefore, is it naive to even think aliens are peaceful when no living thing on earth is? How would this species survived during it's early stage of evolution?
4) Is it logically to say that all intellectual beings in the universe would have died by their own technological creation, thus creating an intellectual barrier in which all intellectual beings can evolve to a certain point before they start creating technology that will be used to destroy themselves?
5) Do you think humanity deserve to be extinct? If humans are able to live beyond earth limits, our own self-destructive behavior will follow us where ever we go. We will use up and destroy the resources of the new planet that we will be living in. Then we will over populated it as we do with Earth. Thus we end up pullulating another planet. So why would we colonize other planet just to continue human destructive behavior?
By the way, I bet one person will make this into a Democrat vs Republican comment. This is way too common in every board, especially in a yahoo forum. When will people realizes both Democrats and Republican are retarded and no politician is working for your interest.

The Borg are once again battling the United Federation of Planets, for the destruction of Earth, to rule over the entire Alpha Quadrant once and for all, with a vast army of Borg ships...
The Federation calls forth the aid of four Federation starship captains, Captain Picard, Admiral Janeway, Captain Riker and Captain Sisko...
With the combined efforts of the USS Enterprise-E, USS Voyager, USS Titan, the Defiant and a vast army of Federation starships, the Federation is beating the Borg, and faced with destruction, the Borg unleashes a powerful untested weapon, and with desperation, they fire it, but instead of destroying the Earth and the Federation, the weapon rips the fabric of space, and the Federation starships and the Borg are pulled into the rip...
The Federation and the Borg finds themselves in the Star Wars universe, but in opposite sides, the Federation is in New Republic space, while the Borg is in Sith space...
The New Republic was established after the events of Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi, and the Sith are remnants of the Galactic Empire that was under Emperor Palpatine...
The Borg seeks to assimilate the Sith into its own, and so the Sith battles the Borg, and during the battle, the new Dark Lord of the Sith, is impressed with the power of the Borg, and envisions a powerful union between the dark side of the Force and the Borg. The Sith Lord knows the power of the dark side is much stronger than the power of the Borg, and so the Sith Lord allows himself to be assimilated, but in the end, the Sith Lord overpowers the Borg Queen and kills her with his dark side powers, the Sith Lord takes over the Borg, the Sith combines their technologies with the Borg to make stronger weapons and ships, and the Dark Sith Lord of the Borg sets his eyes on the New Republic, the Jedi, and his new enemy, the Federation...
Meanwhile, the Federation and the New Republic battles each other for days, both sides taking damage, but in the end, both sides calls for peace, and the Jedi sensing good within the Federation starship captains, makes a Federation and New Republic alliance, to face a new threat to the Federation, the New Republic, and the entire universe: the unholy alliance of the Borg and the Sith, under the leadership of the Dark Sith Lord of the Borg...
I hope that Paramount and LucasFilms can make a crossover film with Star Trek and Star Wars, that would be a dream come true...

Today when you think of video games you usually think of Call of duty, Halo, Xbox live and ETC but where did it all start? That's what I am here to talk about today.Video games have been used to entertain us for generations and will keep on entertaining us and our children and gran children and so on.
Many people think video games our bad which is true of you play them too much just like watching tv, eating, working, and even exercising is bad if u exercise to much.Shivery Minamoto the Creator of many nintendo games such as Mario Brothers, Zelda and Donkey kong has quoted "Video games are bad for you?Ya that's what they said about Rekindle!".There has been allot of debate on video games encouraging violence this is not true because most parent try to blame all problems of video games and some children will say the games games have corrupted them because if a parent catches these kids with drugs and he owned a game that involved drugs then the child will say he was corrupted by the game to keep him out of trouble this is also the same with violent activities.
One of the first games space war was first invented by steve rescale at the Massachusetts institute of technology on February 1962.The basic game play of Space war! involves two armed spaceships called "the needle" and "the wedge" attempting to shoot one another while manoeuvring in the gravity well of a star. The ships' fired missiles that were unaffected by gravity (due to a lack of processing time). Each ship had a limited number of missiles and a limited supply of fuel. The hyperspace feature could be used as a last-ditch means to evade enemy missiles, but the reentry from hyperspace would occur at a random location and there was an increasing probability of the ship exploding with each use.
The North American video game crash of 1983 almost wiped out video games and pretty much killed Atari 2600.The crash made many people believe that video games were just another fad such as the pet rock and and mood rings. There are many causes of the of the video game crash what pretty much killed In July of 1982 Atari struck a deal with Stephen Spielberg to make an ET video game which seemed like a good idea at the time but the contract made a dead line to have the game created in christmas which gives it only 6 weeks to complete they were also required to produce 5,000,000 copies this was a complete recipe for disaster seeing how Atari usually needs 3-4 months to complete and a production rate of only 300,000 copies. The game was so bad and confusing most of the games ended up getting returned leaving Atari with almost 5,000,000 unsellable copies.Fortunately Nintendo was invented and this saved the video game industry. The games that where left were marked down drastically because stores could not return an Atari game typically was $34.95 and after the crash they were in a discount bin for about $4.95 sometimes a dollar.
The Nintendo Entertainment System or NES for short was first released in Japan as the Nintendo family computer which was later changed to the NES and released to North America in 1985 reliving the crash of 83 and saving the video game industry. This system exceeded way higher over the atari with better sound and graphics and a game library with over 800 game cartridges. Of course we probably recognize this system most for the original super mario Brothers and duck hunt.Nintendo was originally founded as a card company in late 1889 and still manufactures cards to this day.
So in conclusion to my speech.video games are great they can entertain us hours on end and will continue to do so. It is a great feeling to go to a whole new world in the comfort of your own home and do virtually anything without worrying about any consequences
moreResolved Question: What's a good Puerto Rican name for Luke Skywalker?
Okay, so I'm adapting a play from STAR WARS to be produced at a local high school which has a lot of Puerto Rican students. So I'd like it to be something they can relate to, with light switchblades instead of light sabers, the space ships will be Millenium Ford Falcons, you get the idea. So I'm changing their names to Juan Cholo, Poppy Vader, Princess Lupita (with bakelite banana earrings from ebay!) Only Chewbacca can keep his name because "Chewy" sounds Puerto Rican enough, don't you think? But I'm stumped on Luke Skywalker. Any ideas on that?

SPOILER WARNING! I have seen Captain EO three times @ Disneyland, my favorite place EVA! In my opinion, Captain EO comes in 2nd place next to Star Wars as Space Epic! Anyways, in Captain EO I noticed that the good guys' ship looked like Jabba The Hutt's Sail Barge from Return Of The Jedi, the Patrol Ship (from the bad guys' ship) looked like the Klingon Bird of Prey, Hooter the blue Elephant looked like that blue elephant at Jabba's party (also in Return Of The Jedi), the Bad guys' planet looked like the Death Star, the bad guys (or prisoners) looked like the Borg and their supreme leader looked like the Borg Queen, and the ending looked like the Land of Oz with the supreme leader looking like Glinda the Good Witch, and of course, Capt. EO looked like he had discovered a new Force ability to make bad things look good! I know that Captain EO was directed by Frank Copolopa (forgive me if misspelled) the maker of the classic The GodFather, and it was produced by George Lucas the GENIOUS behind the epic Star Wars Saga! Larger than Earth, the ship called the Metal-City the ship, is the first city-ship, a city that is a giant spacecraft. All of it's eighty thousand citizens are on board. The ship is made from a metal called Urantitverium, the hardest substance ever created, an alloy of uranium, titanium, silver and plutonium. Urantitverium is colored purple so the ship does not need painted, Urantitverium is also one of the lightest metals.
The Metal-City, can go to speeds of seven hundred space miles an hour, one space mile is around twenty-four light-years. The fastest ship ever created except for the war ship called The Barbarian. The ship is greatly larger than earth but only carries eighty thousand people as it is heading from Jupiter, to the planet Deminis a planet which is filled with many people and is running out of space. The mission for Metal-City is to take many people and fill its living quarters with Deminian. After the ships living quarters is filled it will search for a new planet with a livable atmosphere and transport vital resources for the Deminians to build colonies on the new planet. The ship for it's size is extreamly easy to maneuver in space, the only flaw is that if an asteroid belt is near the ship has to go around it, it is so large it can not go straight through. The ships technology is far advanced to other ships, it has the technology to transport people to other regions of the ship, it even has the technology to create holograms of people, that have never lived, the holograms are just like real people but do all the difficult work, the holograms teach in the schools, they clean the ship, they repair the robots, they do all the work nobody wants to do.
In the ship people work in many doing hundreds of different jobs, such as designing new technology's in the lab, navigating the ship and one of the most important jobs is keeping the hologramatic server working, The hologramatic server is a computer that makes sure the holograms are working and that they don't commit mutiny.
Some people work alongside the holograms, there are currently twelve thousand different holograms all with their own personality and each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
The Metal-City started being built in the year 2067 and was finished in the year 2390. It took many years and many millions of Seed, Seed is the universal currency released in 2045.
The ship has many defenses such as force field, a field that protects the ship from almost anything. The ship has lasers that can melt chemicals that have melting points so high that they have never before been seen in liquid state. The ship also has a system for stealing information from other ships which is vital in defense against more advanced ships. If the ship is in a lot of trouble smaller ships called eagles can be released, the eagles have strong lasers and can move at speeds that make the Metal-City look small. The Eagles are not just used for fighting they are also used for scouting in areas that are uncharted or where star-pirates may be hiding. There are twenty Eagles, each of them run by a hologram so no human life may be lost if a crash happens. The Eagles have rarely been used for fighting, mostly for when a rogue asteroid is heading for the ship and the ship would not be able to move fast enough.
The ship has many entertainments features on ship such as cinema, bars and many other recreational elements. The ship has many doctors and nurses all very well educated. The doctors and nurses are not just people but also holograms who have an extra brain chip in their hologramatic file.
The ship is slowly making its journey to Deminis, it is now heading through a dark sunless area of space, this area is known for star-pirates.
“Navigation Commander Tyra, why have you taken us into this part of space, we are no where near Deminis?” Shouted Captain Davis, Captain Davis is the Captain of Metal-City and has the highest authority on board the ship.
“Because Capitan Davis, we are not heading to Deminis anymore i am taking control of the ship!” said Navigation Commander Tyra.
After that was said Tyra took out a knife and stabbed the Captain in the neck, he was dead. Tyra then said to everyone over the loudspeaker.
“I have found the Captain dead, as the second person with the second highest authority on the ship i will be taking place as Captain, and i have some new people coming on board the ship, they are in this sector you will treat them like you treat everyone else here!” Commanded Tyra
A group of friends are in the prison area of the ship, they are not prisoners, they are hiding as they do not work on the ship. The group of friends is one hologram whcan you explian infodump a bit more and do you think i should take some writing classes

Prologue
The Dixon War between the two great forces, The Republic and The Dixons, had ravaged most of the galaxy. Not even the capital planet of the Republic, Halcyon, was spared. Billions were lost in that fateful day, when Halcyon fell. The Dixons showed no mercy, slaughtering everyone in sight. All hope for the Republic was thought to be lost on that day, but that was before Cho Badelinger rose from the rubble of his home, vengeance burning in his eyes.
The Dixons were a humanoid species that had come from the uncharted regions of the galaxy. One difference that made them stand out from all other species was that they took the number of disfigurations one had to be a sign of status and rank. They also held a strong phobia of machines. Because of that, all their ships and armour were fully organic and made out of living organisms that were grown on worlds that had their climate changed by them. There already were battles sprouting up around the Outer Rim. Cries of outrage emerged from the Republic, and soon the battles formed into a full-fledged war. The minds of the Republic’s best strategists were put to the test as the invasion force of the Dixons drew ever closer to the heart of the Republic, Halcyon, their capital planet. With a final desperate move, the Republic launched all of their ships, Star Destroyers and X-wing fighters alike, to confront the enemy fleet. They were easily swatted aside by the superior ships of the Dixons. The destruction of the capital planet and the lives of billions soon ensued.
Chapter 1
Thought to be dead along with everyone else, Cho Badelinger rose from the wreckage and rubble of what had once been his home. Without hesitating, he dug through the rubble in the hope of finding his pregnant wife, Mary Badelinger. Not long later, he found her half-buried under the rubble of a half-collapsed house with her head bleeding profusely and clinging on to the last vestiges of life. Cho tried to stop the bleeding but to no avail. Just as he was about to give up, his wife started to say something. To hear her final wishes, Cho leaned close and found himself hearing what he had dreaded. After those few words, her hand went limp in Cho’s hand. With tears blurring his vision, he stood up and with grim determination, dug a grave for his wife and lowered her gently into the pit. Saying his goodbyes, he turned away from his previous life and began a new one.
With his grief replaced by rage, Cho Badelinger ventured through the city in search of other survivors. As the days passed, he sustained himself and his three recruits on rations that they scavenged. With rough estimations, Cho gathered some weapons and prepared for a second wave of invaders.
When a full month passed, Cho’s estimations came true and a Dixon assault cruiser returned to the planet’s surface and unloaded a contingent of troops which then fanned out in search of survivors. In an instant, the survivors leapt out and blasted the troops and boarded the assault cruiser. Cho piloted the plane out of the atmosphere and into the deep depths of space. When they were safely out of range of enemy warships, he ran a casualty count and the results weren’t that bad. Luke lost an arm to one of them and the only casualty was Wedge. After that, he thought about where they would head to next. Bilbringi, the famous mining planet, wasn’t a choice as it was currently in the Dixon’s control. So was the planet of Alderaan, the rumoured home of the once great Jedi. The only seemingly available choice was Garqi that had managed to escape the Dixons attention. And so he plotted the course to Garqi and let the navigation computer do the rest. A every general needed to, Cho had an assistant that was very much like him. Kyp had also lost his parents and his loved ones when the Dixons ravaged Halcyon. That left him full of hatred for the Dixons vowing to make them regret invading the Republic. With that, he left Kyp charge and retreated into his room and put his exhausted body to rest.
Chapter 2
The blaring of alarms woke him up. The first thing that came to his mind was what he was doing in a cabin of a ship and not on his bed on Halcyon. Just as he recalled what had happened in the past few days, Kyp burst into his room with his chest heaving. “Sir! We’ve been followed! Ten enemy assault cruisers are tailing us. What should we do?”Hurriedly, he bolted into the cockpit and manned the controls. ”Chalco! Cade! Man the rear gunners! Full power to front deflector shields!””Damn it! How could they have followed us?” he thought. All the possible reasons rushed through his mind. When another plasma bolt hit them, the reason became obvious to him. As all their ships were organic, they must have had a built-in tracking device! He silently cursed under his breath as the whole ship shook from another blast. He thought about the words his father had always said, “Don’t panic, look at your surroundings and look for a solutio
moreResolved Question: Whats a great space adventure game, RPG, FPS, Maybe an RTS game, Prefably adventure?
Games Ive played that are in space,
RTS
Sins of Solar Empire
FPS
DECENT
DECENT II
DECENT FREESPACE
RPG
Mass effect
Please read below for my thought on these games and hopefully youll get an idea of what I like.
Or skip towards the end
Please do not list any of the above games. Im still playing mass effect, and those decent games are VERY old. I mean 1995 Dos games old. But they are UNBELEIVABLY FUN and addicting. I will still play them ever once and awhile over new games such as mass effect. I love the weapons you can aquire. theres so many to. and every weapon has its purpose. Not to mention the graphics was great for the time it came out. its still pretty good in my opinion. I would like something like Decent II something with a cockpit view. Not like freespace,
I Did like freespace tho for the freedome of going anywhere you wanted. It was great, unfortunatly I only had a demo and didnt play it like I did the decent games,
As fun as FPS games are Sins of solar empire was a great RTS game. I Typically like to stick to Command and conquer rts games because it takes along time to master an rts, and learning to play a completely different platform can be frustrating, But solar empire is a great game with TONS of view options. You can go as close to ships with good graphics as you wish. And as far away as theentire galaxy. I like that alot. Although the ships and amount you could build was limited the graphics and interface are very well.
Mass effect was the only space RPG game ive ever played. heck Im still playing it. I havnt got to far in it but Im still learning so..., anyway the weaponry seems to be very limited to a shutgun, machine gun, pistol, and sniper rifle. Although you can upgrade your weaponry it doesnt seem to change the appearance of guns, and ever gun has the same feel, spacy. The armor is the same way. This game can get very boring at times especially when theres no action
With all that said hopefully someone will have something good for me to play, and hopefully its not a star wars game which is obviously a space game, but star wars never interested meYeah I played it for like a few minutes And I was bored. The type of ship is named a Derraphin (If you're a star wars nerd you may know what that is...)
I'm looking for a name, and I was hoping to relate it to the story.. I want the name to reference something either, powerful, obsessed with power, immortality or eternity, evil…
Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance!
ps. I really love Greek & Norse mythology, so maybe a Hero or someone I can't think of?
moreResolved Question: Anyone know a good space based strategy game?
I don't know if theres anything out there like this but Im looking for a good space based RTS 4X strategy game, and I want it to have massive ships and gameplay.
By massive ships I mean like Star Wars sized capital ships, and huge flag ships and what not. I played Empire at War: FoC and I loved the size of the Super Star Destroyers but the game was lacking in the gameplay field, can anyone recommend a good game?
moreResolved Question: What are these anime's called?

3) Guy with a wooden stick who fights demons looks like it was made in the 80's and there was a kid on roller blades.
4) girls in tanks and i think they were police officers fighting a guy with glasses on.

moreResolved Question: what do you think of my scifi short story?
I'm 15 and aspire to be a writer someday:)
so here it is:
They were the Firsts. They called themselves the Firstborn. To the rest of the Galaxy, they were the Makers, the God-like beings who traveled amongst a sea of stars in the search for intelligence.
Their eyes fell on one small planet, a planet of roaring seas and rocky mountains. Within this planetary cradle, a race with incomparable intelligence dwelled. They were Humanity.
So the Makers came, in their glittering world-ships of steel. Humanity revered them as living gods, though they were still trapped in their prisons of flesh and blood. To Humanity they brought what they considered the Galaxy’s greatest gift, knowledge. Within a few centuries, Humanity escaped their planetary prison and became a space-faring race.
Years passed, the Makers still planted the seed of knowledge amongst Humanity until it came time for them to depart. The Galaxy had one hundred billion suns and there was so much to do in this cosmic ocean.
So the Makers went, leaving Humanity to its own devices. As the centuries passed, the memory of the Makers faded in Humanity’s racial memory until they became far-off gods, revered as the creators of human intelligence. Humanity began to discover new technologies. Far-off suns that were before unreachable became accessible through hyperspatial technology.
A Human empire began to spread across the Galaxy, bent on becoming the Galactic Empire. Emperors rose and fell but the Empire stayed stable. The Galaxy was still a melting pot of intelligences, both human and non-human when the Human Empire was formed. But Humanity rolled outwards faster than any of the other races could have thought and soon Humanity became the sole race of the Galaxy.
Except for the Makers. They still watched the experiment that their ancestors had begun eons ago. In the beginning they had not been immortal. But it had been a long time since they had dwelled in flesh. They had transferred their souls to new homes of steel. Now they soared the Galaxy freely, no longer fearing the ever-present eventuality of death. They looked upon the experiment with disgust. Humanity had wiped out every intelligence that their race had labored to produce. They decided that Humanity had to be destroyed.
So the Makers became the Unmakers.
Humanity saw this new threat to the regime that they held for thousands of years, so begun the Unmaking War. Both sides in this war possessed the technology for weapons of war from their ancestors. But the Unmakers began to overcome the Human Empire and struck at their very heart. In the very beginning of the war, the Human Empire’s capital planet burned, and so human morale was mortally wounded.
The war ravaged the entire Empire. Humans began to find that in an ironic twist of fate, their race was being wiped out. The Unmakers reaped the benefits of their conquests and sought to establish new intelligences to participate in the Unmaking War. Humanity was pushed to the very brink of extinction when the Unmakers had a change of heart brought on by nostalgia for the very old days when the Unmakers were free, the sailors of a million suns, respecting and fostering life where it existed.
So Humanity’s eye fell on an outer planet, unknown until the time when it was vital to the survival of their race. So the last few hundred of Humanity landed on the planet. Then suddenly the Unmakers struck with one final cruelty. Across the Galaxy they erased every bit of evidence that the Human Empire had existed and destroyed the technology and recordings of knowledge that the surviving human colonists had had. So Humanity once again became trapped in a planetary cradle. Without aid from the ancient Makers, they were forced to find their own way in knowledge, trapped on that planet until they were worthy enough to once again venture out and find their destiny among the stars.
The Unmakers still exist, still watch over the experiments of their ancestors. No longer are they encased in metal, now they exist as pure energy, free to roam the Universe forever. On a small blue planet in the outer spiral of the Galaxy, a race once again flourishes but is still trapped in their planetary cradle. They are not worthy yet. They have forgotten the history of their once great Empire and believe themselves to be native to their prison. This is the prison that they consider a paradise or a purgatory. Sometimes they wonder if they are alone, the Makers forgotten. They look outwards towards the silent Galaxy, struggling to find the answers. They know not of their prison, which they call home.
They call this prison Earth.

moreResolved Question: Would this be better if I wrote it from Jace's point of view?
Jace Royce had grown up in the midst of war and violence, so when the alarm rung in the middle of the S.S. Genevieve’s Sunday morning mass it was no surprise for her to hear that the planet Larousse’s Queen Emalee was dead. The congregation of space cadets filed out of the onboard cathedral and started taking their places upon the ship. Their new charted course was headed to Larousse. It was a standard regulation procedure of the academy to investigate any deaths of royals or officials, but it was new to the group of space cadets. Jace quickly changed from her church uniform into the deep green cadet uniform she was required to wear for professional duty. Before Jace left her musty cabin she remembered to pin on the Captains’ pin she had been given at her last promotion ceremony.
It had only taken Jace two years to advance through four rankings. She was smart and the academy knew it as well as she did, but then again Jace wasn’t just a normal girl. As the daughter of the leader of the new world’s government, Overheid van Veir Plantren, it was her duty to perform well and always show courage and honor. It was her turn to captain the S.S. Genevieve and help stop the war that was breaking out on Larousse. Jace knew it was her turn to be a hero.
On her way down to the Captain’s deck, she could feel the stares of all the cadets on her. Nobody had really welcomed Jace into the academy, but she didn’t need friends or supporters- that wasn’t what she came to Alexandra’s Space Academy for. In her mind, friends just turned into the enemies that would try and hold you down from accomplishing your dreams. What was even scarier then the hundred pair of skeptical eyes on her was that her dad would also be assisting in the Larousse rescue mission. He was her biggest judge and harshest critic.
Jace had never really realized how big the captain’s deck was until she reached it and sat down in her captain’s chair. “Cadet Private Faye, are we reaching the destination?” Jace asked in her most professional voice.
“We are about to warp into Larousse in 3.. 2.. 1..” Faye answered back, his eyes not leaving the map screen as the ship jolted into the boundaries of Larousse.
Everything about Larousse was quiet and eerie. Not at all what one would expect from a suspected war zone. “Cadet Sergeant Janelle, where are the enemy ships? I would have expected we would warp into a fire zone. All I see is stars and a planet that has lost a queen peacefully. Turn on the radar and start searching for hidden enemy ships. Cadet Corporal Haylii, make sure all weapons are loaded with firepower. I’ll steer us in the Larousse loading base.”

I am usually a good writer but lately my mind has been in off mode and this is the first thing I've written in months. constructive criticism please!

moreResolved Question: Survey What do you think of my idea for a new sci fi video game?
Ok basically I would want this game to be all the sci fi video games battleships come to emerge in an all out battle. I'm talking the UNSC ship from Halo and the Convernent Cruiser's and Mac cannon's firing from Reach, the Star Trek Cruisers like the enterprise etc..., the space battle cruiser's from Stargate Universe and Battlestar galactica (the main one's they fly around in with all the people in it), Star Wars star destroyers and death stars (but the death star takes ages to recharge) and hundreds of feets of X wings, excalibur's etc.. battling it out in an all on all sci fi video game. How cool would that be? Have you got any idea's on how this could work? Or do you just hate the idea all together? What do you think?

The spacecraft in star war wars always have their engines producing thrust...shouldn't they go faster and faster in free space? Is there a reason that they don't, or is it because star wars is science fiction, and not science fact?
